Jamieson Road Roundabout Upgrade – Blakeview, South Australia
Project Type: Geotechnical and Pavement Investigation – Road Infrastructure
Client: Private Engineering Consultant
Overview
TERRATECH was engaged to undertake a geotechnical and pavement investigation to support the upgrade of Jamieson Road, including the construction of a mountable roundabout and raised shared zone adjacent to Trinity College, Blakeview. The project forms part of a community-focused road safety initiative, creating a low-speed environment and improving safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists within a busy school access corridor.
The investigation focused on characterising existing pavement materials, highly reactive clay subgrades, and subsurface conditions influencing pavement performance and constructability. The scope included borehole drilling, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing, laboratory soil testing, and assessment of existing pavement materials to inform pavement design, subgrade treatment, and opportunities for material reuse.
Key Challenges
Highly reactive clay subgrades prone to moisture-related shrink–swell movement
Assessment of existing pavement materials for potential reuse
Managing drainage and moisture control to minimise long-term maintenance requirements
Outcome
TERRATECH delivered clear, practical, pavement-focused geotechnical advice addressing reactive subgrade behaviour and material reuse. Robust design parameters and constructability guidance supported efficient pavement design, reduced long-term maintenance risk, and enabled the safe, durable delivery of this community-focused road infrastructure upgrade.
