Project Type: Geotechnical Site Investigation - High-Rise Apartment Development
Client: Private Contractor
Overview:
TERRATECH was engaged to undertake a supplementary geotechnical investigation for a proposed high-rise apartment development in the Adelaide Central Business District. The investigation supplemented previous site investigation data, with boreholes targeted at critical foundation locations and advanced to depths sufficient to fully characterise the founding stratum for a pile foundation system.
The scope of works included borehole drilling, in-situ testing, and laboratory testing to provide subsurface data and characterise groundwater conditions to inform detailed foundation design.
Key Challenges
Coordinating intrusive works within an active construction site where bulk earthworks were already underway.
Characterising variable subsurface geology including fill, alluvial soils, and deeper rock materials.
Assessing groundwater conditions and their implications for deep foundation construction in an urban setting.
Outcome:
The investigation successfully characterised the subsurface profile to the depths required for detailed foundation design, reducing geotechnical uncertainty and providing the project team with reliable data to advance the proposed high-rise development. The outcomes supported informed decision-making for foundation system selection and construction planning within a prominent inner-city development context.
